Choir History

The choir has a distinguished history and numbers many famous musical personalities in its previous productions.

Probably the most notable was the young Isobel Baillie who sang with Mr. Watcyn Watcyns in the

society's 1931 annual production. She went on to sing over one thousand performances of Handel's Messiah.

She also taught music and included Kathleen Ferrier among her pupils. She had a wide variety of styles and

preferences and was the first to perform Ralph Vaughan Williams 'Serenade to Music'.

Her advice to pupils was to always 'Listen to the Sound You Make' and 'Never Sing Louder Than Lovely'.

Her own voice was delightful, natural and never strained.
